Lapeer Metal Stampings uses AIM Vision and Increase Inventory Turns by 250%; Other gains measured in move to lean manufacturing

[October 31, 2006] - Lapeer Metal Stamping is a Tier-1supplier controlled & operated by The Diez Group, which is the largest Hispanic minority-owned manufacturing company in Michigan.  LMS employs over 500 workers. All LMS facilities have obtained QS-9000 and ISO-9002 certification along with numerous quality awards.

The LMS Engineering staff provides diverse experience and knowledge of manufacturing processes ranging from peening and spinning to MIG, TIC and projection welding.  Lapeer manufacturing experience has given them significant experience in Brake and Clutch modules, cross members, hinge assemblies and a wide array of other automotive specific parts and assemblies.

Lapeer’s current customer base includes General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor Company, Saturn, Gestamp and several other Tier-2 customers.

Lapeer Metal Stamping Companies are committed to providing their customers with quality products and services.  LMS employees understand the importance of "zero defects" and strive to achieve this goal on a daily basis.  Total quality is assured during all phases of manufacturing through the development of robust processes, utilizing Poke Yoke techniques and ongoing in-process monitorization.

“In a lean manufacturing environment, excess inventory is a huge liability” says Ken Smith, VP Operations, Lapeer Metal Stampings.  “As a Just-in-Time supplier, Lapeer needed to not only manage inventory to the lowest levels possible, but manage and optimize the use of our stamping capabilities to compete.  We used the AIM Automotive ERP system to drive excess inventory to best in breed levels.”

“The AIM team was there, working with us to optimize their system, take advantage of their EDI to scheduling capability, and help with the cultural change to compete in a global supply chain market,” continued Smith.  “Together with AIM, we developed a unique yet powerful system to manage inventory on a containerized basis, which is now offered as a standard part of the AIM Vision suite of tools.”

“As our inventory levels dropped, we realized the other benefits of lean manufacturing,” said Smith.  “Expedites and premium freight, unplanned overtime and other cost reductions were soon realized.”
